Stop guards clocking in for each other

Phone lock, clock-in selfies and shared-phone alerts: how they work and what is stored.

For managers

Phone lock

With the lock on, each guard can only clock in on a phone you approved. Their first phone is approved by itself. A new phone, or a phone another guard uses, is held for your approval and you are alerted.

Approve or remove phones from Staff: tap "phone waiting for approval" on the guard, or ⋮ then Phones.

How Velkeep knows it is the same phone

Browsers do not give out a phone's hardware ID. Instead, the first time a guard clocks in, the phone makes a security key that is locked inside it and cannot be copied. At every clock-in Velkeep sends a one-time code that only that phone can sign.

We store the public half of the key, a label such as "iPhone · Safari", and when the phone was approved and last used. We never read phone numbers, hardware IDs or anything else on the phone.

Clock-in selfie

Guards take a front-camera photo when they clock in, stamped with the time, place and name. You see it on the shift page and in Attendance. Velkeep does not use face recognition.

Shared phone alerts

If two guards clock in on the same phone (only possible with the lock off, or after you approved it), you get an alert and the shift is flagged.

Turn them on or off

Staff, then Clock-in security. Both are on by default. Tell your guards in writing that a selfie is taken at clock-in and why.
